About The Keystone Centre

A grassroots youth charity that has stood at the heart of the Littlehampton community for over 45 years.

Our Story

From Boys' Club to community charity

The Keystone Centre began life in 1978 as Littlehampton Boys' Club — a place where young people could meet, play sport and find encouragement away from the pressures of everyday life. Our governing constitution was first adopted in 1976 and amended in 2007 as the organisation grew.

Over the decades we have evolved into the modern Keystone Centre, welcoming all young people in our community aged 8 to 19. What hasn't changed is our purpose: giving local youth a safe, friendly place to belong, and the support they need to thrive.

We remain a small, independent and modestly-funded charity. We rely on the goodwill of volunteers, the generosity of supporters and the strength of our community to keep going — and we are proud of everything we achieve with the resources we have.

Our Mission

To help and educate young people through their leisure-time activities, developing their physical, mental and spiritual capacities so they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society — and so their conditions of life may be improved.

Our Vision

A Littlehampton where every young person — whatever their background — has somewhere safe to go, something positive to do, and someone who believes in them. We want each young person who walks through our doors to leave more confident, capable and connected.

How We Are Run

Governance & safeguarding

The Keystone Centre is a registered charity in England and Wales, charity number 275994, first registered on 18 July 1978. We are governed by a constitution and overseen by a volunteer board of trustees who give their time freely and are responsible for the charity's management, conduct and finances.

As an organisation working with children and young people, we take our responsibilities seriously. We maintain formal policies covering:

  • Safeguarding of vulnerable beneficiaries
  • Volunteer recruitment and management
  • Risk management
  • Managing conflicts of interest
